History

Chesapeake Cats and Dogs (CCAD) is a lifetime haven and no-kill animal rescue organization. It is dedicated to rehabilitating and providing a second chance to cats and dogs that have been abandoned, abused, lost, strayed, or surrendered. Formed in 2006, our organization consists of a

group of dedicated volunteers working to achieve our goal of providing a life of love and dignity to all animals We have successfully placed more than 2,000 homeless cats and dogs in loving homes.

CCAD rented a small facility in Stevensville that served the community well.  A decision was made to pursue a larger facility and an opportunity to purchase a 5.5 acre plot across from Chesapeake College was presented.  The Board of Directors voted to purchase the property with a small building for renovation.

Volunteers from the community pitched in with time, money and sweat to completely rebuild the farm house and turned it into the primary sanctuary facility.  Discussions continue about building a new and larger facility.  We hope the dream is realized.

CCAD remains committed to helping end the needless overpopulation, death, abuse, and neglect of dogs and cats in our area and improving their lives as well as their new owners by working diligently to locate loving and responsible owners who wish to make their new pets members of their family—forever!Though based out of Kent Island on Maryland’s eastern shore, CCAD has had country-wide impact in placing homeless animals into loving homes.

Most of our adoption and fund-raising events are held mainly in Queen Anne, Anne Arundel, Talbot, and Caroline counties. CCAD is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization and does not receive any government funding but exists solely upon the generosity of the public. We operate under the supervision of a Board of Directors (all volunteer positions). Please click here to read our newsletters and learn more about what we’ve accomplished in our years of service.
